Welcome To The Android Parent Blog
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to The Android Parent (aka TAP), a new Android-centered blog aimed specifically at parents who also happens to be Android users (if youre an iPhone user, come on in as well, just know that what you may be reading may not always be relevant to your device).
A while back, I was sitting at home, frustrated that I had forgotten to pick something up at the store, an item that I was sure that I would remember without writing it down. As often happens, that did not happen. Being what many may say is typical of a man, I had promptly forgotten what that additional item was. Of course, it wasn’t intentional but nevertheless: it was forgotten.
I figured that there had to be a better way, there had to be a way that the Android phone I have in my pocket at all times could somehow help me out. In fact, I knew that it could.
I started digging through Google Play, looking for reminders, calendarsreally anything that could help me with my dilemma. I searched the web, turned over stones, looked in the crawl space and in my son’s toybox (no, not really but it sure seemed that way). Ultimately, I did find what I was looking for but not after much frustration and heartache. The saying goes, “there’s an app for that”. Of course, you don’t know that until you find it and the frustrating part was exactly that, finding an app that would do what I wanted it to do.
You’d think “there’s a website for that”finding good parenting apps, that is. Thats what I thoughts. Sure, there’s a few here and there but I could not really find anything that focused specifically on Android. Much of whats out there appears to be focused on the other platform (iPhone).
I’m quite sure I’m not the only parent out there looking for ways to use their Android phone or tablet better as a parent. Thats where the idea for this blog came from a blog about Android apps that is useful to both parents and their kids. I am hoping that I will be able to share some of the discoveries that helped me as a parent, both as husband and as a father. Then, perhaps you can also share how your Android device and the apps you use (or your kids use) has helped you (or not, knowing the pitfalls to avoid area also good).
What can you expect from TAP then, you may wonder. Initially, I will focus on a few areas:
- Reviews of apps for kids, whether they are entertainment or educational
- Reviews of apps for parents
- Tutorials, such as what to do with a left-over Android phone
- App highlights, which is essentially just a brief mention of an app, not a full review
- Other random parenting things
Basically, the idea is to point out how Android devices and apps that can be useful for parents. I doubt very much that I’ll be diving into the latest version of your favorite ROM. There are plenty of sites for that already. Dont expect to see reviews of The Dark Knight, Iron Man 3 or the latest about Google Glass. You can find reviews and opinions about games and apps on sites like Android Police if thats what youre looking for.
Finally, although I love tech, I am a parent first. As such, family comes first and then this blog at some point later on. Im saying this simply so you understand and are not surprised if on occasion I dont post as frequently. Our families should always come first.
With that, I welcome you once again to join me and share in the wonderful adventure parenting can be.
